Amanda Gordon's surroundings have been key to her artwork. Being self-taught she began her art career in pet portraiture before creating her own unique style. Being surrounded by nature where she has lived, she has watched deer in her garden and hares boxing in fields. She works from her garden in Surrey/ Hampshire and captures the wildlife that she sees, from foxes to kingfishers. She works from the emotional response she has when experiencing the animal in its natural environment. She begins with a delicate outline which displays the essential details which convey the movement and spirit of the animal, rather than being anatomically correct. Then using watercolours-which nature is spontaneous, to capture the animal’s movement. Depending on the composition and mood of the artwork she will use naturalistic or vivid colour pallets which complement the artwork. Each artwork is completed with a paint splat to create the same effect as a tarnished surface, to emphasise the distinction between the reality and her emotional representation of it.
