J Connolly

John Connolly is a man of many skills and talents, from being a trained Art and Drama teacher, he is a founding member of a Theatre. He divides his time between painting, professionally acting, play writing and singing with boyband, 'Old Spice'. He became a full-time artist in 2010, working mainly in acrylics, mixed media and using a variety of found materials, for mark making, his artwork displays his love of landscapes, being inspired by sea, moors and woods, John’s work is full of drama and emotion. The ‘observer’ can experience a feeling of remoteness and ‘sense of place', which is why he rarely includes people in his paintings, where figures do appear, this is usually to provide focus and scale to his work. Drawn to the sea and bleakest parts of Cornwall and vast sweeping horizons of The Peak District, he focuses on the horizon where the contrasts of colour, texture and the ever-changing Cumbrian light over water enable him to create work with drama and emotion. The Isles of Scilly provide him with a rich variety of subject matter. His most recent work is called 'Woodland Light', which is inspired by The New Forest and Sherwood Forest.
