Zalini - Injecting Life Into Art

Not far from The Rose Gallery, in the heart of Bedfordshire, Zalini (Kevin) has been creating stunning artworks with his incredible “injected scribble” technique—a method that has taken him eight years to develop. These vibrant, textured portraits of animals with distinctly human characteristics are capturing the imagination of visitors to our gallery and art collectors worldwide.

It was wonderful to be able to talk to Zalini recently, to find out more about his work and inspirations - and you can see more on his website.

Getting Technical

Within an artistic journey that has spanned decades, Zalini has explored many different creative styles and techniques - from drawing and painting, to high gloss resin abstracts and stunning 3D metalwork butterfly forms, continually exploring new artistic innovations.

He uses syringes to apply intricate, unpredictable lines of paint; an innovative method that weaves complex and mesmerising textures and vibrant colours into each piece. What starts as apparent chaos transforms into captivating portraits that really draw you in.

“I always want to create something that hasn’t been seen before,” Zalini says. “My objective was to create a unique style—something that you won’t see anywhere else.”

Wildlife and Whimsy

So why animals? “The animal pieces are fun and designed to get a reaction,” Zalini shares. “They make people smile. And I always think, the cats are quite spiritual.”

His portraits are full of character: a cat in a knitted hoodie lost in music, a wide-eyed Highland cow caught mid-surprise, or a majestic lion demanding attention. Each creation invites viewers to imagine the stories behind these animals - and moments, revealing personalities that we’ll recognise and relate to.

With their expressive faces and human-like quirks, Zalini’s animals spark humour, affection, and wonder. These are not simply depictions of wildlife; he’s created portraits of characters with emotions and individuality.

Philosophy and Uniqueness

Zalini told us he believes that “Art doesn’t have an intrinsic value; the response to it comes from an individual’s reactions and feelings. As an artist, you create art because you enjoy it and hope those who see it will enjoy it too.” He continues, “Everything I create is unique. People want something unique, and they should have that. This also ensures the value of their investment.”

Unlike most artists who create an original which is then copied for further editions, Zalini creates each piece as a one-of-a-kind, their textures and vibrancy confirming their uniqueness.

This focus on individuality highlights why many art - and animal - lovers commission Zalini to create pet portraits. One of our own customers wanted a piece which captured the personality of their recently lost canine companion. We love how he brought to life this playful pooch who thought nothing of jumping into the driver's seat, convinced he could drive the car.

Zalini’s originality, technical mastery, and imaginative approach offer collectors the chance to own something truly distinctive. For collectors, this commitment to originality means each piece is not only instantly recognisable but also uniquely valuable — a rare opportunity in today’s art market. Each piece is an investment not just in art, but in individuality. You can explore Zalini’s latest works with us and experience the energy, colour, and life that he injects into every artwork.
