Gallery Manager, art matchmaker and unofficial WhatsApp queen
If you've ever received a WhatsApp message from The Rose Gallery, enjoyed a virtual tour, or popped in for a browse - maybe hoping to find the perfect piece for your home, there's a good chance you've already met Dinah.
As Gallery Manager, Dinah is at the heart of most of what happens at The Rose Gallery. Part curator, part problem-solver, part client liaison and part creative matchmaker, no two days are ever quite the same. But we wanted to take you behind the scenes to see more.
Morning: Coffee, Conversations and a Plan for the Day
The day starts early, with a coffee in hand and a quick scan of overnight orders. With clients across different time zones, mornings are crucial for reviewing purchases, responding to enquiries, and making sure everything is in hand.
The morning meeting is also where the day really begins. Around the table, ideas are exchanged, client projects discussed, and plans refined. It might be a new artwork that has just arrived, a commission taking shape, or a collector looking for something very specific.
No two mornings are ever quite the same, and that's exactly how we like it.
The Art of Rehanging
One of the most hands-on parts of the role is curating and rehanging artwork. This isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about storytelling.
Every wall in the gallery tells a story. By thoughtfully balancing colour, scale and subject matter, Dinah helps create displays that encourage visitors to pause, explore and discover new favourites.
Dinah always considers how pieces interact, making sure each work is seen in its best light and creating a complete experience for visitors. Whether it’s about showcasing new releases, creating fresh perspectives on familiar pieces, or drawing visitors into the gallery, even the smallest changes have an impact.
Discovering Your Next Favourite Piece
Midday often involves sourcing new pieces and working closely with artists and suppliers. That might be reviewing portfolios, discussing upcoming collections, or finalising details for new releases. This is where the gallery’s plans take shape.
Relationships matter deeply here. Trust, taste, and shared vision all play a role in helping our customers find the right pieces that will make them smile.
This is one of the most exciting parts of the role: bringing fresh artwork into the gallery and introducing clients to artists they may not already know.
The WhatsApp Queen
Our international client base means Dinah is regularly connecting with collectors overseas. WhatsApp video calls often turn into bespoke virtual tours of the gallery, giving clients a close-up view of the pieces they might be considering.
We love how technology has allowed us to provide an intimate, tailored, and accessible gallery experience anywhere in the world.
Whether we’re helping a client compare two artworks, showing how a piece looks in different lighting, or sharing a newly arrived collection, these conversations have become an important part of how The Rose Gallery connects with collectors around the globe.
And it’s not just our space that gets shared. If you're not sure how an artwork might look in your space, a quick video call allows Dinah to offer ideas and advice tailored to your home.
Afternoon: Art, Tea, and Conversation
Afternoons frequently bring local visitors to the gallery. Some visits are casual, others more consultative, but every conversation is personal.
With tea and cake from Bells often accompanying the conversation, discussions naturally drift between art, interiors and individual tastes. Dinah’s job is about more than selling; it’s about building relationships that will help people find pieces they’ll enjoy for years to come.
While some visitors arrive knowing exactly what they’re looking for, others simply enjoy spending time surrounded by art. Either way, the conversation is often just as important as the art.
Bringing Ideas to Life with Commissions
Later in the day, attention might turn to commissioned pieces or artist meetings.
From initial concept discussions through to refining details and coordinating conversations with artists, Dinah plays a central role in bringing bespoke artworks to life. Helping Jackie’s family bring their holiday memories to life with Ben Jeffery, or Catherine remember her grandmother with artwork from Craig Alan, Dinah loves putting the right artist and opportunity together.
Whether in the gallery or their studios, meeting the artists whose work we celebrate, keeps these relationship strong. This is so important to support commissions and help the gallery team share the artists stories and strengths with our visitors.
More Than a Job
No two days look the same, but each one reflects what’s so important to Dinah and the rest of the team at The Rose Gallery: curating exceptional artwork and creating meaningful connections between artists and collectors.
We know that for Dinah, being Gallery Manager isn’t just a job, it’s a balance of creativity, organisation, and relationships, woven through with a shared love of art.
And then, once the day is finished there is always time for Harlow - the most gorgeous chocolate labrador and perfect companion after a busy day spent connecting people with art.
