The Rose Gallery is delighted to announce the addition of Frank Pretorius, a UK-based contemporary artist, to its collection. Celebrated for his dynamic approach to painting, Frank seamlessly blends representational and abstract art, creating works that capture movement, depth, and cinematic storytelling.
Born in South Africa in 1974, Frank was inspired by the natural world from an early age. His lifelong practice of drawing and observing his surroundings led him to study graphic design, fine arts, and filmmaking, followed by a two-decade career in advertising. In 2018, he dedicated himself to painting full-time, bringing his unique vision and technical mastery to the canvas.
Frank’s artistic process involves constructing, deconstructing, and rebuilding imagery with layers of abstraction. Using traditional media such as charcoal, ink, and oil on canvas, he explores the transformative qualities of light on figures, landscapes, and wildlife, preserving moments that reflect his personal experience of the world.
His work spans African and English wildlife, equine studies, and automotive subjects including the classic Porsche 550. Frank has exhibited at the Contemporary Art Fairs in Windsor (2019) and contributed to Sketch for Survival, an annual wildlife art exhibition by Explorers Against Extinction.
