British Artist Debbie Urquhart was born in London in 1972. In 1995 she graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art from Newcastle University.
Urquhart likes to paint the things around her, and yet her pictures are undomestic. Debbie Urquhart on an artistic mission to reveal the elegant, spare geometry beneath the muddle of the everyday. In most paintings of interiors, a table in front of a window is a dramatic means of linking indoors and out; in Urquhart’s pictures, it’s an optical device to trick the objects on her tables into projecting an abstract geometry of shadows on the surface. Her tilted table tops are pictures within pictures, as are her views through windows onto city streets or gardens with ferns and falling flecks of light. Urquhart’s contemporary colours are quintessentially English, reminiscent of the harmonious pigments found in historical interiors as far back as the 17th century.
Debbie Urquhart has exhibited extensively at group shows in London and Palm Beach and has had several solo exhibitions at London galleries. She lives in Greenwich with her husband and family.
