Here at The Rose Gallery, we only sell limited edition prints and original artworks - but why? And what do you need to know about them?
Original pieces are those which were created directly by the artist. Because these are few in number they're highly prized and much more valuable than any print.
A Limited Edition is a print produced from an original painting, the number printed will be restricted - typically with a maximum of 395 copies but occasionally the edition run will be much smaller. Each print will be signed by the artist with the number of the print and the size of the total run shown on the front of the artwork, it will also come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Limited edition prints are a high standard on premium quality paper and mounted on high quality board. With only a limited number released, once these have been sold the artwork can only be bought on the secondary market with this scarcity potentially impacting the sale price.

Artist Proof or Limited Edition
An Artist Proof is a very limited print run (no more than 10% of the edition run) and may be presented in a slightly different format to the main run. These are marked with AP and can only be released after the main print run has sold out.
This wonderful piece Free Spirit by Josie Appleby had a main edition of 250 with only 25 artist proofs available. These artist proofs were created in a larger format, more like the original, with a scale and detail that brings even more power to this stunning artwork.
