Alison Britton-Paterson is an abstract expressionist painter whose work explores the space between what we see and what we feel. Using nature and landscape as her starting point, she creates light-filled, textural compositions through bold brushwork, sweeping charcoal lines, and palette knife techniques. Her surfaces balance the exposed and the hidden, inviting quiet reflection.

Although she collects visual material from the landscape, shapes, textures, and colours captured through sketches and photography, her final pieces are emotional responses rather than literal representations. She aims to evoke a shared sense of freedom and joy, keeping her titles intentionally open-ended to encourage personal interpretation. “Maybe they’ll see something I didn’t intend, that’s part of the beauty of art,” she says.

A self-taught artist, Britton-Paterson began exhibiting in 2016 and quickly gained attention from galleries across the UK. Her luminous style and original voice have marked her as a rising talent. Art critic Kate Reeve-Edward notes that while her paintings are charged with expressive energy, the controlled mark-making brings depth and balance, giving each piece a finished and compelling presence.
