Innovative Wildlife portraiture from Colin Banks brings us closer to animals than we have ever been before. With a slightly abstract feel to his artwork, Colin feels the eyes should always be the focus to any life study, as this is the key feature that brings the artwork to life and draws the viewer in, engaging with the subject. With a story to tell these animals have past adventures and uncertain futures. Colin has his own connection with these animals, being a conservationist. Which is why his tigers have a unique feel to them. All produced on aluminium, he starts with a white base coat and works with black and silver airbrush spray paint. This process helps him form the abstract background. Then he will move into the finer details, where he engraves or incise on the surface, exposing the underlying surface. Though Colin set up his studio recently his artwork has already made an impact across the UK. The subject matter combined with his technique creates a unique and powerful artwork which would be suited to any setting.
