Fred Gordon

Fred Gordon is an award-winning British sculptor celebrated for his expressive bronze works inspired by wildlife and the natural world. With a Foundation Diploma from Falmouth and an MA (Hons) in History of Art and French from Edinburgh University, Fred committed to sculpture full-time after graduating in 2017. Largely self-taught, he has honed his craft through deep observation, hands-on experience, and an intuitive approach to form and movement.

Working directly from life, Fred travels extensively to study animals in their natural environments, including time spent in Sri Lanka and a three-month residency in Limpopo, South Africa. He creates field sketches, photographs, and maquettes, using these studies to inform the final works in his studio.

Fred’s sculptural process is distinguished by his use of layered casting wax, developed during his years working in a bronze foundry. This technique introduces spontaneity, abstraction, and a sense of fragmentation to the forms, while still conveying anatomical accuracy and emotional depth. His bronzes are cast using the traditional Lost Wax Method—each wax master used only once—and finished with richly marbled patinas in natural tones of grey, green, and brown.

His work has been exhibited at Sculpture by the Lakes, Animal Art Fair, Art for Youth, and the Affordable Art Fair in London. In 2017, he was awarded the Diana Brooks Prize and continues to gain recognition as an exciting and original voice in contemporary British sculpture.
