Ian H Watkins

Based in the Welsh Valleys, Ian H Watkins has developed a distinctive artistic practice rooted in his deep connection to the Welsh landscape. Returning to painting following a successful career in the performing arts, Watkins has created a body of work that explores not only the physical beauty of Wales, but also the memories, emotions and sense of belonging embedded within its landscape. Working primarily in acrylic, Watkins builds richly layered surfaces with pastel, charcoal and gold leaf, creating paintings that are tactile, expressive and atmospheric. Influenced by artists including Kyffin Williams and contemporary Welsh painter Elfyn Lewis, Watkins captures the shifting light, rugged textures and changing moods of the Welsh countryside with remarkable emotional depth. Watkins has exhibited extensively in solo exhibitions across the UK and his work has attracted a number of notable collectors. He has also contributed to BBC's The One Show, where his art has reached a national audience.
